Drake pulled up slowly to the front of the house. The brakes squeaked as the car came to a halt. Plumes of dark smoke billowed out of the exhaust. It was a sign of the cars age and condition. In comparison the long driveway had an array of expensive cars. Lexus, Mercedes and Teslas.
The monster put the car into park and turned off the engine. He partly opened the door to the car. He sighed and slammed it shut again. Rusted flakes of metal and paint crumbled off the bottom of the door. The old engine roared to life and Drake drove a few hundred yards down the road.
Not going to let them see this hunk of junk Drake thought to himself as he began the short walk back toward the house.
As Drake approached, he ensured his shirt was tucked in and tie was straight. His nerves were starting to get the better of him. The monster stood at the end of the driveway. His nerves were building, he could feel it in the pit of his stomach. His heart rate was increasing, thudding like a drum. He could feel it in his head. His breath becoming shorter and quicker. As he walked forward all he could hear was the combination of white noise and thudding. He reached out to knock. In the moment the door flew open. The white noise disappeared, everything went back to normal.
“Don’t just stand there! Cmon in!” The lady was stood there with a towel and a glass, she had been in the middle of drying before she spotted Drake.
“Hey! There he is the big man!” A balding man, around the same age as the lady stepped forward and threw us arms around Drake. “Welcome to the family son!” The man stepped aside and gestured the monster to come in.
Apprehensively Drake stood unmoved.
“Cmon!” The man and the Woman said collectively.
Drake stepped forward. The lady closed the door behind him.
“Thank you.” The giant felt obliged to say something. He was emotionless. “It’s good to see you Sarah.”
“Where are my manners!? My god! Drake, This here is my husband Rick.” Drake could tell Sarah was nervous.
The man smiled and shook the hand of the giant. “Yep 21 years of suffering! You get less for murder right? Hahahaha” Drake could help notice this guy loved the sound of his own voice and acknowledged him by nodding slightly.
The trio made their way down the corridor and into the kitchen. Drake had to duck under the doorway. The Various people walking around, carrying plates, eating and drinking all stopped and looked over at him.
“Everyone, meet Drake. Drake, everyone.” The woman gestured to the people in the kitchen.
“Jesus look at the size of him.” A voice called out.
“John!” The lady snapped at the youngster.
She looked over at Drake and falsely laughed. A desperate attempt to hide the embarrassment she felt.
“I know him! Th-That’s Drake Wilcox!” A slightly older boy shouted out.
“Er ahhh” A weak looking thin man wearing round spectacles stepped forward and threw his arms around the child.
“I’m Rodger. I’m Nichole’s husband.” The thin man held out a hand. Drake looked down at it in disgust. The giant wasn’t used to niceties. Realising this the Roger put the hand in hid back pocket “I’ll erm speak to you later?” The man stood waiting a response. Drake didn’t oblige.
“Everyone! Everyone!…..” Sarah tapped a glass with a fork to get everyone’s attention.
“Thank you all for being here today! Obviously we are here for Ricks 47th birthday!” The room cheered and clapped. Rick slightly bowed. His right hand across his stomach the left holding his glass above his head.
“Now as you all know.” Sarah continued. “Earlier this year we lost our mother.”
“God bless her!” Someone in the room shouted.
“Yes! God bless her! However in losing her we gained our brother. Welcome to Drake our long lost younger brother!” Sarah raised her glass. “Welcome Drake!”
The room followed suit.
“Welcome to the family!”
“Drake!!”
“Hello!”
Drake scanned the room. The faces. To him they were unknown. Welcome to the family.
It stuck in his head. It was the one comment that stuck in his mind. The room turned to blurs. The sounds of people, of celebration faded into silence. The combination of the white noise and Drakes thumping heartbeat back again. Dominant in his mind. He could feel the sweat.
“Drake?”
“DRAKE!” Sarah had snapped him back.
“You ok?” She asked as the room looked on.
“I’m…..I……can’t.” Drake placed his bottle of beer down turned and strolled out.
Rick began to follow but Sarah put her arm out and stopped him.
Drake made it to the end of the drive before bumping into another one of the guests. Literally. Drakes size knocked the much smaller guy back a few steps.
“Woah Slow down big guy!” The man looked up. “Jesus you’re Drake aren’t you?”
“Yeah…so what?” Drake snapped back. The experience had just been through was overwhelming. Inside that house was everything he had wanted. A family. The whole thing was odd to him. People getting together and getting on. Nah not for Drake. David had shown him the way. He hadn’t been a father, Drake knew this now. More a sadistic tormentor but him standing there wasn’t for him. It was too early.
“Well I guess there no time like the present.” The man continued. He held out his hand “I’m Simon. I’m your brother.”
Drake stood there looking at the hand. His head was full of thought whirring around. He didn’t know what to do. He reverted back to what he knew best.
His massive hand slapped his bothers away.
“Isaac and James are my brothers.” He stared the man down “I don’t know you.” Drake barged passed the Simon and charged on towards his car.
Drake fumbled his keys and dropped them.
As he bent down he heard the voice shout out “Hey!”
It was Rick.
“You know we’ve put a lot of effort in here….You show up. We don’t know you but we tried to make you feel welcome and you go and do that! You don’t have to be ru……argh”
Drake hoisted the balding man up as if to choke slam him.
“I don’t need this shit Rick. I do things my way. On my time. I am not answerable to you.” Drake snarled viciously at his helpless brother in law.
“You-You d-d-don’t have to be….rude.” Rick struggling with the vice like hand across his throat.
“I’m a monster Rick. I beat people up for fun.” He threw the man to the floor and bent down to meet his eyes “you’ll do well to not cross me. I’m the man.” Drake stood up smiling, got in his car and started it. Ricks present for challenging the angry monster was a face full of black exhaust fumes. Drakes tires spun as he roared off.

Isaac snapped his eyes open at the sound of the argument outside
3.47am God Damn Drake!
“Ah yeah well fuck you too man!” Said Drake stumbling around outside. Isaac could see from the window. His friend and long time tag partner was busy arguing with the cab driver.
Isaac opened the front door and Drake stumbled in.
“Jesus you’re a mess.” Isaac quipped.
“Shut up. Just pay that guy.” Drake began to make his way to the lounge. Isaac quickly settled the cab fare before heading back inside.
Isaac “quite the night huh? You’re nothing but a drunken ass Drake.” Drake was laid out on the couch.
Drake : “I’m the man!”
Isaac : “I could have guessed you went to a bar. Your brother and sisters came over tonight. You apparently walked out and had some altercation with Rick is it? You’re a drunk bum.”
Drake : “I went to the casino. Lost the car too this time haha! And anyways You don’t really get to hold an opinion Isaac. You junkie bum. As for my FAMILY! Ha! Happy families. That’s not my ball.”
Isaac : “You need to pull your shit together.”
Drake sat up his eyes squarely locked onto Isaac “You scared little old me is going to mess up your next match? I told you I’m the man.” He laid back down. “What’s the matter I get a bit of acknowledgment and you gotta stick your opinion in?”
Isaac : “Just…..make it right with the family. And get yourself together. I thought you were over this.”
Drake sat up again. This time his jovial nonchalant attitude was gone. He was mr serious : “I’ll never be over this Isaac. But I will be the destructive monster you all need mw to be at exp 31. I’m going to run my foot through Vaughn and those Royals. I’m the man.”
The monster put the car into park and turned off the engine. He partly opened the door to the car. He sighed and slammed it shut again. Rusted flakes of metal and paint crumbled off the bottom of the door. The old engine roared to life and Drake drove a few hundred yards down the road.
