Once in a generation…
A meteor known as the Goe Goe Star arcs across the night sky.
As it flies, fragments of the meteor descend on the world. These glowing stones provide limitless energy, allowing for the creation of new technologies. Some say the fragments are a blessing, a sign from the heavens that their gods are watching over the people. Others see the fragments as a curse, tempting those with an evil heart to seek their power. These fragments, called Sparks, are often rumored, but rarely found.
It is the year 200X.
On a clear evening in the lands of Oedo, the glowing tail of the Goe Goe Star illuminates as its debris rains from the heavens. Many of the townsfolk marveled at the star as it cut along the clouds. Many cheered, others watched in silent reflection.
However, in this celebration…
A larger figure hurtled toward the earth…
And the world as we know it will soon change.
Far to the outskirts of Odeo City, where the capital resides, is a magnificent workshop three stories tall. This was the residence of the Wise Old Man, a brilliant inventor and village elder. It was not uncommon for the Wise Old Man’s workshop to be a loud place, with whirring engines and buzzing electronics. The Wise Old Man was resting outside of his shop, several feet from his home under a tree he had planted years ago. It had grown into a sturdy plant, suitable for him to rest his back upon while he relaxed in the warm afternoon sun. The breeze was cool and refreshing, dancing through his long white hair and beard to match. There was a leather apron discarded to the side, allowing the old-timer to rest in his grey smock.
The sound of the songbirds was interrupted by a wagon rolling nearby, then a splintering sound, and finally a loud SNAP! Wise Old Man eyes opened, sitting up and observing his surroundings. There were two men on a wagon that was leaning to one side. Though far away, the sounds of an argument were breaking out. Sighing, the Wise Old Man stood, brushing the dirt and grass off his smock. He had just been sorting through a number of ideas for inventions in his head, and this interruption was bothersome. Still, there were people in need, and who was he to turn a blind eye? Donning a warm smile, he approached the two men, waving at them to get their attention.
Wise Old Man: Do you require any assistance?
The two men turned to face the Wise Old Man. They were younger men, dressed in work clothes and swords on each hip. One of the men was tending to the horse at the front of the wagon, as the other sighed in relief.
Young Man #1: Yes, thank you! One of our wheels seems to have broken. Could you tell us where the nearest town is?
Wise Old Man: I am afraid you are still but a half hour's walk to Oedo Town.
Young Man #2: Dammit, I told you we needed to fix that wheel!
Young Man #1: Well we can't do anything about...hold on...you're the Wise Old Man, aren't you? Surely you could help us!
Wise Old Man: Oh?
The man who was tending the horse now stood next to his partner, his hand on his blade's handle. The other man casually rested his hand on the hilt.
Young Man #1: Well, you're an inventor. You must have something in your warehouse we could...borrow.
Wise Old Man: Now hold on a moment-
The sound of a sword leaving its scabbard cut through the tense moment, as the driver drew his blade and held it to the Wise Old Man's throat.
Young Man #2: If you know what is good for you, you will give us what we want. Or, we kill you here and take it anyway.
Wise Old Man: Y-y-you really won't be getting away with this!
Robber #1: But you said so yourself; we're far from the next town.
Wise Old Man: Say I were lying...
Robber #1: We have maps, you old fool. We know how far away this is.
Robber #2: Its all a trick! See? The wheel isn't even broken!
Robber #1: It was unfortunate we had to lie like this, but times are hard, you see.
Wise Old Man: Understand that what you plan on doing here will not end well for you.
Robber #2: Oh yeah? And who will stop us? You?
Wise Old Man: Sometimes a savior comes along at the last possible moment.
The two robbers laughed as the robber lifted his sword over his head.
Robber #2: See if someone save you from THIS!
A flash of steel...
A blur of red and blue...
And a loud THUD...followed by steel shattering...
The robber was knocked to the ground, holding onto the hilt of his now broken weapon. The other robber stood shocked, unaware of what had happened. Then, a voice.
??: STOP RIGHT THERE, EVILDOERS! How dare you bring harm to this elderly man after he offered to aid you! You shall now be brought down by the mighty fist of my justice!
Everyone turned to face the newcomer. Adorned in red and blue clothes, a mask of a smiling man's face being worn under his blue rounded hat, a long pipe held up in the air by his right arm.
??: GORGEOUS! CHARMING! FUNKY!
I am Impact!
A flash of stage lights illuminated the stage, a backdrop of a hanging scroll with a mountain peak drawn upon it dominating the background. Standing before this scroll was Impact, Protector of Oedo Town and new rising star of Level Up Wrestling.
"Greetings one and all! I am the one, the only, Impact! So gorgeous! So charming! So...funky! I am very happy to be counted among the other fighters here as a rising star, and you haven't seen anything yet! No doubt you saw the fantastic performance I had as part of the cheesiest match in the history of Level Up Wrestling! Nothing but gouda competition with no cheddars, leading to a brie-amble of what kind of talent is on the rise! Did I win? Well...no, but I just got here! I was a snack, an appetizer! I don't give away all my talent on the first go, after all! No, I wanted my first real challenge to be where I showcase what I can truly do. So I might have held myself back...apologies all! I hadn't been feeling all that great the night before...must've been something I ate...
Well regardless, here I am, 100% and ready to fight! I was trained as a warrior and as a warrior I shall fight! I refuse to let the fiery spirit within me wither away; I will do anything to achieve my dream! I want to help people, becoming known far and wide as my noble deeds spread my name and reputation across the globe. I want the children in all the corners of the world to know the name of Impact, and that it is a name of righteousness, of reliability, and of respect! That at a time of great distress, when all seems hopeless, all they need do is cry "HELP US IMPACT!" And I shall Da-Da-Dash to the rescue!
But, to do that, first I need to prove that my bite is as big as my bark. And what better way to do so than against an instructor? Your name is Antonio, is it not? A pleasure to meet you! I do enjoy learning and you yourself being an educator automatically fills me with great respect for you. I really do hope you have something to teach us as it seems you are on your way back on the path to glory. Like me, you want your name known far and wide, but while I do this for the children of the world, you seem to want this for your own self-interest. And you'll have to forgive me if I don't see that as a bit...selfish. I mean look at you: you call yourself The Omega Weapon but fail to realize a weapon is a tool of destruction, meant to be used by another. And I have a feeling we both know that's not what you want to be; a tool for someone else to use at your own expense.
I fear for your warrior's spirit. That all it sees is the peak of the mountain but neglects the hazards of the mountain trail. One wrong step and its down the cliffs you go! And that worries me! You strike me as a man of great potential, but like a blade fresh from the forge, you are red hot but unfinished, requiring a solid hammering to shape yourself into the true form of The Omega Weapon you have envisioned for yourself. So! Let I, Impact, be the first to rain those blows upon you! Not to harm, not to destroy, but to shape, to focus, to hone your edge and maybe even show the world that even its pluckiest hero can educate!
Withstand my barrage at your own peril! Beware the might of the Impact Beam, a maneuver that has dispatched many an evildoer in my home of Oedo Town! Be dazzled by this gorgeous, charming, and funky warrior! Truth and justice charges forward to face you!

??: GORGEOUS! CHARMING! FUNKY!
I am Impact!
The other robber drew his sword, rushing at Impact with the sword overhead. Impact seized the opportunity, running at him and swinging low, catching the robber in the stomach. With another mighty swing of his pipe, he connected with the back of the robber, and he lay on the ground, motionless but still breathing.
Impact: Wise Old Man! Are you okay?
He turned, seeing the other robber was holding the Wise Old Man at gunpoint.
Robber #2: Don't come any closer! Do it and-
He didn't have a chance to finish his sentence. The Wise Old Man calmly flipped the robber onto his back, holding the arm with the gun and twisting his hand, forcing him to let it go. He recovered the weapon, tossing it far away from the fight.
Wise Old Man: I do believe it is your time to go.
Impact walked up, clapping the pipe in his hand. The two robbers scrambled to their feet, one clutching at his wrist, the other at his back, as they started running down the road toward Oedo Town. Those idiots didn't even take their wagon. Poor horse. The Wise Old Man laughed as the two bungled robbers departed, walking over to calm the horse. Impact approached next to him.
Impact: I'm glad you're alright, Wise Old-
THWACK!
Without warning, the Wise Old Man smacked Impact on the back of his head.
Impact: OWWW!!! What was that for?!
Wise Old Man: You fool! You worry too much! You really believe I couldn't handle those two? I was beating up youngsters before you were even born, you know!
The Wise Old Man began to laugh heartily, stopping only when he felt a sharp twinge of pain in his back. Groaning, he clutched his back, twisting as best he could to alleviate the pain.
Impact: See? You can be a little reckless, Wise Old Man! I can't help but worry about you! You raised me like I was your own son, you know!
Wise Old Man: I suppose you are right. I'm sorry, Impact. Were you hurt at all?
Impact: Ha! Not a scratch on me! Those guys were nothing compared to us, huh Wise Old Man?
Wise Old Man: Too right you are. Come on, we should get this wagon off the road and the horse some food and water.
The pair brought the wagon back to the workshop, the home of the Wise Old Man and his crazy inventions. The entire first floor had an open bay area where a wagon could be stored, a long workbench lining the back of the room, a small kitchen area where someone could sit and take a break, and a myriad of inventions, some completed and most of them broken or half-finished. There was a lift in the far left corner that would take you to the rest of Wise Old Man's home, built above the workshop. Impact fetched a bucket of water as Wise Old Man led the wagon into the bay area. As Impact returned, Wise Old Man was coming down the lift, his arms filled with fruits and vegetables, along with a letter in a sealed envelope.
Wise Old Man: No sense in letting these things go to waste.
Impact: We should ask around town and see if anyone is missing their wagon and horse! I'm sure the poor little guy has a family that misses him...
Wise Old Man: Very well. I will look into it tomorrow; I have to go into town for a delivery anyway. Speaking of, this letter came for you. Still chasing that dream, are we?
Impact sighed, tired of having his dreams shot down by Wise Old Man. He grabbed the letter as Wise Old Man fed the horse a fresh carrot.
Impact: Can't you be happy that I have my own dreams and goals?
Wise Old Man: But what about the town? Are you not its sworn defender?
Impact: Why of course! But that doesn't mean I can't dream. And there's a whole wide world out there! I can't help everyone if I stay in this town!
Wise Old Man grunted in disapproval as Impact looked at the letter. The return mailing was for Level Up Wrestling, and the company logo was stamped on the back. He ripped the top open, pulling the contents out from within. Inside was a contract, with several areas marked for signatures and initials. Impact cheered with glee; they wanted him to join! As he jumped for joy, a ticket slid out of the envelope, having been stuck in one of the creases.
Impact: At last, Wise Old Man! A chance for me to become a star! An opportunity for me to show the world what Wise Old Man's greatest invention is capable of! And the offer of a lifetime to travel the world and save those in need! Oh you have to let me do this, Wise Old Man! Please!
Wise Old Man tugged at his beard. He had not expected Impact to be so earnest in leaving his home, especially with how the outside world was these days. Peace thrived in these lands, and he would soon be exposed to seedier elements than the occasional robber and dine-and-dasher. There were killers, kidnappers, schemers, all kinds of people that would be ready to take the impressionable Impact for granted. However, he also knew that Impact would not sit idly by for long. Wise Old Man let out a sigh as he looked over the contract. His eyes widened when he read over the compensation amount, and he looked up at his adopted son with the twinkle of profit in his eyes.
Wise Old Man: And here I was thinking you were being taken for a ride! Go, my boy! Go find yourself out there!
Impact could feel his heart beat rapidly in excitement; he was going to realize his dream!
Impact: Oh thank you Wise Old Man!
Wise Old Man: I always knew this day would come...so I had something prepared for you. Close your eyes and hold out your hand.
Impact did so, and after a few seconds of waiting while Wise Old Man dug through his pile of inventions, he placed a heavy disc in Impact's hand. Looking at it, the device appeared to be able to expand, allowing it to change its shape to twice its size.
Wise Old Man: I thought it would be difficult to come back home if you were ever to leave, so I created this device: The Convenient Overland Navigation Coordinate Hanger, or C.O.N.C.H. for short. Just place the Conch anywhere you'd like, and it will turn into a platform that you can stand on. A display will pop up, and you can then teleport back here!
Impact: Wow, Wise Old Man! This is a fantastic invention! Thank you!
Wise Old Man: Now, there are two things I should tell you. Number one; no one knows about these lands, so you must keep them a secret at all costs. If anyone asks where exactly we are, tell them that you are from a remote village. We only have peace because of our ways of secrecy. Number two; you must protect anything you bring from here at all costs. Nothing leaves your sight or your lodgings, you got that? If anyone were to get their hands on my creations, why, the world would change forever! There are people with more evil in their hearts than those robbers we dealt with today. Steel yourself for the world you are about to expose yourself to.
Normally Impact would ignore Wise Old Man's lectures, but this time he nodded, understanding the seriousness of the situation. Wise Old Man hugged the hero, holding him tighter than one would expect an old man to be able to embrace.
Wise Old Man: Do come visit once you are settled in. Oedo Town will still need its greatest protector, after all.
Impact: Don't worry, Wise Old Man! You can call me whenever you need me, and I will be there faster than you can say-
Impact looked down at his ticket; it was for a ferry ride to the main land...that was leaving in an hour! And the dock was just an hour away!
Impact: EGADS! I'M GOING TO BE LATE! I'll be back soon, Wise Old Man! Count on it!
And with a wave of his hand Impact darted out of the workshop, heading away from Wise Old Man's Workshop, Oedo Town, and the world he once knew. His determination growing, the hero's journey had just begun...but not before he tripped over a rock and stumbled down the road. No one saw that.
Impact: Wise Old Man! Are you okay?
He turned, seeing the other robber was holding the Wise Old Man at gunpoint.
