Biography:
Rumor has it that at least two people wear the mask of Nocturne. People point out that sometimes, Nocturne’s legs are bulkier at the knees, as if wearing braces on both legs. Sometimes, she seems taller or more…ahem…”developed” than others. Whomever is behind the mask, she’s not saying. Nocturne is a woman of few words and fewer wasted motions, though sometimes it’s clear that the difficulty meter gets changed when she steps in the ring. One never knows whether it’s the training mode Nocturne or the hard level Nocturne that’s going to be in the ring on any given night.
Known only to The Developer and Level Up Wrestling staff, Nocturne is indeed multiple people. When they need someone to do the job for a member of the staff and the Waluigis of the realm are not around, there are a handful of lesser-experienced graduates from Will Prydor’s Aerie School of Professional Wrestling who can and will don the mask for a little extra ring time and to get used to performing in front of the camera knowing that their only job is to make their opponent look good. When a more competitive match is needed out of Nocturne, or fates forbid an actual victory, the mask goes to another member of Prydor’s school—who herself is working on her own miracle comeback story. In addition to giving students valuable experience in front of the camera, Nocturne serves one other purpose: to prove to everyone that the doctors were wrong, and that a shattered kneecap and two torn ACLs would not be the end of the wrestler-turned-instructor formerly known as Amelia Midnight.
(Note from the handler—while Nocturne is designed to be a jobber, as all staff characters are meant to be here in Level Up, I will be writing RPs for the character depending on the specific persona of Nocturne who will be under the mask. This is to keep a few creative juices flowing in my mind, and also to give people booked against her something to compare their work to. The only time Nocturne should win is against a no-show or against Dude Waluigi. —Duane)
EDIT ON FEBRUARY 22, 2022: Removed “primary/secondary” versions of Nocturne. As the primary version has retired to be a mother, all of the students share the same basic move set. A few have kept The Witching Hour as a move in tribute to Amelia, hence it also showing up in the notes above.
