LEVEL UP EXP23
Old National Events Plaza
Evansville,Indiana
USA
We are backstage at the world renowned Old National Events Plaza in Evansville Indiana, the venue for EXP 23 for LevelUp Wrestling the GameChangers Larry Tact & E.A Blizzard fresh off the victory of the Multiplayer Champions Wayward Sons Eli Goode and Brody Adams are inside the groups locker room.
Blizzard reaches for the cooler, popping it open with a couple of beers, handing one over to Tact, then grabbing himself one before closing the cooler.
EAB: A toast to success Lawrence, splendid work as expected, if nothing else it should prove to the world watching and especially the boys and girls in the back that GameChangers are not here to be made fun at, let them throw in those juvenile pranks and watch us succeed regardless. What we have is a collective cavalcade of talent of the highest caliber and with a pair like us on their side ISAAC and Drake will make believers of anyone who dares to doubt their success in no time.
Larry Tact: I couldn’t agree more, it seems Level Up has yet to receive the message that we aren’t to be taken lightly or trifled with. We are a unit that has solidified our grip on this company, and we did it through nothing less than hard work and overcoming those who want to maintain the aged-out status quo. Tonight, Isaac showed as much when he toppled that talented blowhard, Centurion. Drake, of course, was nearby in case Cent got out of hand, taking liberties. Going forward, at Doom it looks like we won’t be defending our titles. Perhaps the Developer should provide a stage for us to showcase our achievements of the past few months. It only makes sense to–
A knock at the door leads the two to turn their heads. As the door creaks open, we see a pencil-necked looking suit with thick black rimmed glasses stick his head into the doorway. He seems to be a younger man, with a comb-over gone wrong. Larry waves the kid inside.
Larry Tact: Jeremy, come in. Mister Blizzard, I went about taking the liberty of asking this Level Up intern to run an errand of sorts. You see, I know we have these title contender matches tonight, but it seemed a tad unfair that we are being forced to defend the titles at EXP 24 when the Wisdom Champion, Ahmya, does not have to do so. Instead, Jeremy, what did I ask you to do?
The intern looks down at his shoes, twiddling his fingers.
Jeremy: W-well, Mr. Tact… you wanted m-me to go ask the Developer to have the Power and Courage title defenses moved…
Larry Tact: That’s right! And when did I want them moved to?
Jeremy: EXP 25.
Larry Tact: Show a little decorum, intern! Now again, but add a little tactful formality– a ‘sir’ or even ‘mister’ would do. These kids, right Mister Blizzard?
The young man’s head shoots up at the reprimand, his face showing red splotches as he quickly pushes up his glasses, hands up in apology.
Jeremy: Y-yes, Mr. Tact… I mean, sir! You want the titles defended at EXP 25, sir.
Larry Tact: Tolerable, I suppose. Now enough of the recapping. What did they say?
Jeremy: Well, I uh, I didn’t exactly find the Developer, Mr. Tact.
Larry Tact: What??
Jeremy: They… they seem pretty hard to find. I honestly don’t know if they’re even in the building. The door with their name on it is locked and–
Before he gets a chance to finish that statement Blizzard lands a massiva palm on Jeremy’s shoulder.
EAB: Jerome, are you making excuses pal?
He glances at Tact, who rolls his eyes at the intern, then at Jeremy.
EAB: What if I offered you a beer? Lawrence, should we get him one and he’d finally start talking like a real man, act accordingly.
He smiles a bit, that eerie pearly white grin. Tact laughs and slaps a knee.
Larry Tact: You’re onto something there, EA! Although, it may be a violation of his contract. Who knows, since the Developer barely tells anyone what the rules are around here. Not that we don’t appreciate some… flexibility at times.
EAB: Oh wait, you are on the job, on the clock aren’t you Jerome? You wouldn’t drink on the job would you?
Jeremy: Well E.A I’m just an intern and..
EAB: Hold on minute pal, you aren’t an actual employee then? You are a trainee or something? Lawrence here offered you a chance of a lifetime to do good for this company. You know I have a great vision for LevelUp and that vision could always use capable people. Of course given that if you are not helping this promotion, you are hindering it and if there is something I don’t like is someone getting the way of improvement, you are trying to sabotage my vision Jerome..
The intern stutters, sweating profusely now.
Jeremy: my name is actually Jer–
EAB: I don’t care what your name is, pal! You are wasting my time, wasting Mr Tact’s time, do you know just who that man is, how much power he has?!
Jeremy exchanges a look with Larry, glares back and holds up his hand only to make a fist. Larry flashes a toothy grin.
Jeremy: H-he-he’s Larry Tac–
EAB: Mr. Lawrence Tact, sir! YOUR Power Champion, the noble and just leader of Game Changers the greatest collective of talent this company has ever seen. Did you see a few shows back what we did to those people, people like Dionysus and others who tried to hinder progress in this company?
Poor Jeremy manages barely a nod, tears in his eyes.
EAB: Just imagine what could happen to you pal, what we could do to someone like you and this is not just careerwise, we, the Game Changers are people you want to be on the good side of, do you understand that son?
Jeremy squeezes his eyes shut and whimpers, Larry resting his hands on the Power title in his lap, and shaking his head.
Jeremy: y-yes sir Mr. Blizzard.
Blizzard chuckles.
EAB: You may just have a future in the business yet then, good for you pal!
He slaps Jeremy on the back and opens his beer.
EAB: Now if you didn’t have anything else? We are kinda having a private conversation here.
Jeremy: I did find a different Level Up executive, though. They listened to me and I relayed the message.
Larry cocks an eyebrow at Jeremy.
Larry Tact: Well why hadn’t you said that first, Jeremy? There’s positive news, after all.
Jeremy: Yes well, uh, sir… it turns out, they came back to me and said the Developer rejected the idea, so–
Larry shoots up from his seat and is in the intern’s face mere moments after.
Larry Tact: FAILURE?! This is an outrage! Jeremy, you disappoint me!
Jeremy is about covering up at this point, spittle peppering him on the forehead. He moves back against the wall next to the door and Larry grabs the handle next to him.
Jeremy: I’m sorry, sir! Mr. Tact, sir! I didn’t want to h-have to return with bad news.
Larry turns the door handle and swiftly opens it, sending Jeremy out of the room and stumbling to the floor.
Larry Tact: Go tell this executive if they won’t allow us to choose when our titles are defended, then Ahmya shouldn’t get a free ride, either. She just had her opponent decided for DOOM, didn’t she Mister Blizzard? Why can’t they be put into as uncomfortable a position as we are?
EAB: Agreed, seems fair and square.
Larry Tact: Having to defend our titles on such short notice. How dare they show such disrespect.
Jeremy: Uh, Mr. Tact, sir. For doing this, you had mentioned giving me tickets to the first Carolina Hurricanes Playoff series. Should I give you my address or–
Blizzard closes the door on Jeremy and turns to Tact.
EAB: This is not a good thing Lawrence, Kat Jones is not going to be best pleased with what happened win or lose she’s coming to get payback on what you orchestrated and whoever comes after your championship isn’t going to spare a chance to deliver some revenge. People don’t exactly like either one of us and every match against either of us, every chance at these championships is going to be a celebration for whoever gets a go. We need a plan, we need to have a plan just in case, should one or both of us lose these championships. They can’t just push the GameChangers to the back of the line, what we did today against those two, the multiplayer champions. We delivered a message, made a statement. People have gained shots for less, they can’t torpedo and sabotage all of our plans. If they shoot down one we’ll just get another one. One match at a time might be a good play but a wise tactician plans ahead and for more than just one outcome.
Larry Tact: True, we have targets on us, given our rampant success. Keep in mind, Mister Blizzard, win or lose, there is always a need to make adjustments. Things have only improved with our standing, as we demonstrated tonight. Eli and Brody wanted to show they weren’t taking advantage of the chaotic situation that led to their claiming those gauntlets, and we showed that couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s entirely possible that we are aligning for a shot at those Multiplayer gauntlets, ourselves, down the line. As for our pieces of the Triforce? True, Kat has been something of a thorn in our side. We dispatched her a few weeks ago when she teamed with Lord Raab, but now she’s come back for a piece of retribution. Unfortunately for her, you have made strides since your last encounter. You took Dionysus to the depths of hell and showed him that no one can avoid your wrath, should they antagonize and bring it out. Kat is just another opponent who wants to make this a personal issue when the humble reality is? This is all for the betterment of Level Up. You and I are doing the work, and she is merely standing in the way based on some unfounded principles. If she wants to continue on that track, we’ll be ready to make sure she is given tactful guidance, and no one will be interfering with our– well, YOUR doing just that.
((On Camera))
The scene opens to something you may have seen before: a view of a large, skybox corporate office, straight out of the corporate mastermind villain’s base from a movie. This is no movie though, this is the reality, the environment to which the star of today’s scene, E.A. Blizzard is accustomed. The room is beautifully adorned with rare art pieces, a huge oak desk behind which sits the aforementioned man; the large city skyline through the huge windows behind him is not even enough to detract from the aura of the huge, imposing man sitting front and center. A woman, apparently a secretary, scurries out of shot with a sharp hand wave from the man, no words needed, a command of all around him. A command of you watching, as his steely eyes meet the camera, and he begins to talk; dominance and power integrated to every syllable of his speech.
EAB: Well well, isn’t it just great to see you all again ahead of another a great installment of EXP for Level Up Wrestling, To those of you who missed out on EXP 23 GameChangers consisting of Lawrence Tact and Myself respectfully, beat the Wayward Sons, the team who managed to capture to Multiplayer Championships dear ol’ pal of mine in Eli Goode and his chum Brody Adams. Now given what I said before EXP 23 I do hope that Mr. Adams realizes that my words were not baring ill will towards you or your partner, I just gave you a fair warning about him and this venture of yours. Well look how things went Mr. Adams, look at the outcome? Wasn’t I right? Don’t get me wrong I don’t claim to be no nostradamus or anything like that but many of those who face me turn out better for it going forward. You have that choice too, learn from this experience and mature into something, someone better. Eli Goode had many opportunities to blossom into something superior and while he did accomplish the championships with you, was it due to his progress, or your own input? Ponder on that pal and think of what I told you before.
His fingertips touch as the man leans on his elbows.
EAB: A win is always a great thing, success is something to enjoy and embrace to the fullest but the foolish thing would be to assume it would be constant, that it could never end. Winning a championship is one thing, it feels great, it is such a wonderful feeling, but keeping it, retaining that championship is never as easy as winning it is. I am fully aware of this especially now at the upcoming EXP where I get to face a very talented, very admirable individual that being one Kat C Jones. We’ve had some clashes before and the results have been mixed to say the least for both of us but the last time we faced one on one in EXP 20 she did beat me and as much as it may be a matter of argument how much by and how convincingly did she actually beat me, it is without question that the history books shall remember her as the one being victorious so going into this match. I’m sure you feel confident, I bet you feel like you did it once, why couldn’t you do it again eh Miss Jones? That’s good, I hope you are confident, I hope you are healthy, 100% at the peak of the fitness you can be going into this match because while you had the upper hand last time we faced, the scales have titled a bit since then, I have the Courage Championship in my possession which has caused some ire with the ranks of the roster, the fact that anyone in GameChangers has any kind of title hardware seems to rattle some cages and ruffle some feathers and just like young Zigmund Morgan, Caballo Diablo himself is seeking to take one championship on this very show, the Power Championship from our illustrious and noble leader Lawrence Tact, now while the young master Morgan is aiming to break the hopes and dreams of the little Tactical ones in the audience wanting to see their hero go through a successful defense. I am sure you aim no less than that to snatch away this beauty from me.
Blizzard holds up the Courage Championship before spreading it over the table.
EAB: All the time I have been part of this company, people have doubted, me, my abilities, my desire, my devotion and whether I should even be in this business, many laughed even more mocked but alas here I am YOUR Courage Champion and even if there are those who consider a man of my size and mobility an ill fit to represent such a championship. I’d dare to disagree because I am, If I may so myself the embodiment of courage. You see folks courage is not siding with the masses and yelling from behind the backs of others and agreeing with them like a mindless sheep. No Courage is the strength to go against the grain and even if the opposition is many to stay true to yourself and what you know to be right. Since day one I have been all about my vision to make this place better, the best it can be. Through my own input, my inspiration and motivation to others. Such things have happened that have already pushed this great organization to be far superior to what it was when I found it and I’m far from finished. I’m far from done. Ernest Hemingway once said that courage is grace under pressure and going into this match against Miss Jones, I know full well that majority of the fans nor my peers are hoping for me not to leave EXP 24 as the Courage Champion. It’s clear that envy and ignorance has blinded them to see me as a mere ogre and a monster who somehow just manages to luck his way to things, by hook or by crook and with no talent or effort of my own. Now if I cared what the doubters think, if I truly valued the opinions of the naysayers I would have never achieved the success I already have. I would have never become the man, the role model and the living breathing American Dream that I am.
He lands those massive palms to the sides of the centerplate.
EAB: We are both capable of winning Miss Jones, but EXP 24 the situation will not be the same as it was when we met in EXP 20 and I think we both know that too. Stakes are a heck of a lot higher and we’ve both gone a way since that meeting in the ring. You got past me at that time and I have no problem admitting it, I even applaud you for it and am glad you had that moment because if the outcome of EXP 24 should go different and not in your favour then you can at least take solace in the fact you did beat me once. I am a gracious champion and just like my dear old friend Eli Goode and his friend Mr. Adams on the previous show. I humbly welcome you to the ring with me but remember, we are not stepping in the ring as equals on common ground anymore. You are stepping into my domain, my division and as long as this championship is in my possession Miss Jones, as long as I have anything to do or say about it, you or anyone else is not going to take it from me. You can try to agitate me or my ire with the idea that you are just a “lil” Kat Jones like that is supposed to make me feel bad about losing to you or something but if you choose to be that little lady to get mercy from me or to make things any easier for yourself, you should not come at me with threats claiming to be this vicious hellkat out for revenge. As the age old saying goes out of the two wolves who live inside you the one you feed more grows bigger and wins, you can’t keep feeding both of those creatures and expect to be full or healed, be one or another Miss Jones and we’ll see how it pays off but remember that both of those choices come with consequences as well. Tides have turned since EXP 20 and to put it bluntly…
Blizzard leans back in his chair, Laying the Courage Championship over his shoulder.
EAB: you're not in Kansas anymore.
With that we fade to black with the well known pearly white eerie smirk.
