It was a beautiful morning as Emily stepped out of her Kia Sol in front of a large metal gate and gave it a push. It opened up and she stepped inside carrying two bags with her. The gravel crunched beneath her sneakers as she made her way through the cemetery. She stopped at a row of headstones beneath the shade of a giant weeping willow tree and walked down to the eighth stone and stopped in front of it. Kneeling, she took one of the garden tools from one of the bags and tidied up the grave and wiped the dirt from the headstone. When she was finished, Emily sat down on the grass in front of the headstone and brought a sandwich out of the other bag and a bottle of Pepsi.
“It’s going to be a beautiful day Liam, you should see it…”
“I wish you were here. So much has been going on since you left and I don’t know what to do anymore.” Emily said as her breath caught in her throat and tears welled up in her eyes.
“I joined a wrestling company called Cali Grapps and I met someone there, his name is Duncan…”
Emily took a deep breath and ran her hand through her hair before taking a sip of her Pepsi.
“He welcomed me to Cali Grapps, became my friend…When he left the company, I followed him to Level Up. Things seemed to blossom there and I thought we were growing closer, but now I don’t know. My feelings for Duncan grew, he got assaulted by some thugs called the Game Changers and was beaten pretty badly. I went to visit him in the hospital. He was in and out of consciousness. Liam, I told him I loved him. I haven’t said that to anyone since you. He made light of it and I stormed out of the hospital. We didn’t talk for weeks and then when we finally did, I still had hope that we could get past whatever was bothering him. I was wrong. Now it feels like he’s got a wall up in front of me and I can’t get past it. I don’t know if I want to at this point anymore.
There’s someone else too. Somebody new. His name is Buster. Buster Gloves. It’s a silly name. But he’s been great. He’s helped me train.” She said as the tears rolled down her cheeks as she took another sip of her Pepsi.
Emily stretched her legs out in front of her and reached out to touch Liam’s headstone. She closed her eyes and tilted her head up towards the warm California breeze that was blowing through the cemetery. She tried to smile.
“Buster’s a good guy. He has children. I’ve only met them once, but they seem like sweet kids. I like Buster… a lot…He’s been there when Duncan wasn’t, but things have gotten all twisted there too. The last time we spoke, he accused me of exploiting him and Duncan. That’s not how it was. I mean, I understand how he might have felt that way, but I wasn’t intentionally trying to do anything like that. Anyway, we haven’t spoken since. Well, except for one other time. When I kicked him in the nuts at the pay-per-view to save Duncan! It’s kind of funny now that I’m saying it out loud, but I was seriously afraid Buster was going to hurt Duncan. I haven’t seen Buster since that night and I think there’s someone new in his life now. Her name is Riley Heart.”
Emily rolled her eyes so hard and then took another sip of her Pepsi.
“I don’t like her. And it looks like I may have screwed up any chance I could have had of a friendship with either guy. And forget about having something more with Buster. I am so screwed right now. Liam, what am I supposed to do?”
Emily tossed the now empty bottle into the plastic bag and pulled her knees up against her chest, wrapped her arms around them and cried big choking sobs. By the time she was finished crying, Emily’s voice was hoarse and she felt sick to her stomach. Wiping her eyes, Emily stood up and gathered the gardening tools and bent over to kiss Liam’s headstone before walking back to the car.
When Emily got home, she could smell pancakes and sausages. “Hello?”
“Hey Emmy! In the kitchen,” Eric called back as she moved to stand behind him and reached for a piece of sausage from the frying pan.
“Hey, none of that now.” Eric said as he turned around to look at her and could see how bad she looked. “Emmy?” He asked her as he opened his arms for her. Emily wrapped her arms around his waist and buried her face in his chest and started to sob again. Eric ran his hand over her back and tried to soothe her, he kissed her forehead and got her to sit down at the kitchen table that he’d already set. “Grandma Marie’s already gone out for the day, said she’d be home around dinner time this evening, but to call her if you needed her.”
Emily buried her face in her hands and tried not to start sobbing again, Eric went back to the stove and dumped the sausages onto a plate and then grabbed the pancakes which had been keeping warm in the microwave. He set them on the table then walked back to the fridge to grab two bottles of Pepsi. One was sat down in front of Emily, the other one in front of him.
“What’s going on?” Eric asked as he looked at Emily.
“I went to Liam’s grave earlier this morning. I told him about everything that has been going on lately. I told him that I really missed him and wished he was here. I told him about Duncan and Buster…” Emily’s voice trailed off as she reached for her fork.
“Have you ever considered a third option?” Eric asked as he took a bite of the chocolate chip pancakes.
“Third option? What kind of third option?” Emily asked as she looked at Eric with a raised eyebrow.
“Maybe for right now you don’t need to be with either one of them. You want to work on your career, focus on winning a title. There are other things outside of wrestling that you could focus on like our youtube show that we had started a while ago,” Eric suggested as he offered Emily a smile.
Emily pondered Eric’s words and she wondered if he might be right, nobody said she had to choose either one of them right now.
“You know Eric, I think you’re right…A lot has gone on in the last couple of years in my life and I need to focus on myself and my career. Thank you Eric, I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
When they had finished eating, they both tidied up the kitchen and shared a big hug.
“I’m going to go downstairs and do my shoot promo and then I think I’m going to go swim some laps, join me?”
“Always Emily!” Eric said with a smile.
Emily went downstairs to the basement and sat behind the desk that her dad had purchased for her and turned on her laptop.
“Now before I do my shoot promo, time to check Facebook.”
((You could always stalk Riley on social media)) She thought to herself and then shook her head.
“I’m not that sort of person….Or am I?”
She asked out loud as she searched for Riley Heart. It wasn’t hard to find her page by any means. She scrolled through several posts about their “date night” and looked through a bunch of pictures that she had posted from Instagram and Twitter. One picture in particular pissed her off, it was of Riley in between Buster and Bert McAlroy, with her arms draped around their necks and all three of them grinning.
“Son of a bitch!” Emily hissed as she slammed the lid of her laptop and then set up her video camera and hit record.

“Hello Level Up world! I've been absent recently but no more. I’m back and I have a huge match this week. I'm teaming with Chelsea Skye and we are going up against two of the toughest competitors I know in Level Up. Buster Gloves and Ahmya. I’ve been in the ring before with Buster, I know what the man is capable of doing and I have heard nothing but good things about Ahmya. My partner and I will most definitely have our work cut out for us but, Chelsea and I both have something that Buster doesn’t and that is speed, sure he is quick but we are faster and built for endurance. We can go for the long haul and we will get the job done at EXP this week. Can’t wait to see you all there. Emily blows a kiss to the camera and hits the stop button.
~~Off camera~~
She turns off the lights in the basement and goes back upstairs to her room to change into a bathing suit and meets Eric outside who’s already in the pool and waiting for her. She dives into the deep end and then swims to the shallow end and meets him there.
